Writing can be a tool for healing, integration and self-regulation, as well as creative expression and discovery. We will explore the creative process of writing and share our written words to digest our experiences and heal—both individually and as a group.
Toby Israel, writer, editor and facilitator, will guide a group process known as a “writing jam” to invite creative expression in a safe and judgment-free space.
Participants need:
- A notebook and pen.
- Readiness to express and witness.
NO writing experience required!!

About Toby Israel
Toby is a facilitator and writer currently rooted in Costa Rica. She has a metaphorical closet full of hats: Author, Editor, Marketing Consultant, Movement Artist, and Empowerment Self-Defense Instructor. Toby holds a BA in Anthropology from Middlebury College and an MA in Peace and Media Studies from the University for Peace.
Toby is the founder of Mujeres Fuertes Autodefensa (Women Empowered Self-Defense), a social enterprise dedicated to providing holistic self-defense and empowerment training across Costa Rica, and beyond.
Her first book, Vagabondess: A Guide to Solo Female Travel, was published in 2020. The common thread? Empowerment, freedom, and adventure.
